Good for hand placement, bad for heat., 6/7/2012

Tayler from North Dakota

When I first learned to ride english, my instructor put these reins on for me. They worked so well to learn where my hands should be at different gaits and such! However, they have now begun to melt as others said. They have gotten all over my bit and bridle which took serious cleaning, and ruined my riding gloves. I recommend them for beginning english riders, but watch for melting!

A mixed bag, 9/7/2009

Diane from Virginia Beach, VA

These reins are a great idea and work wonders for hand placement, but I've bought two pairs now because they become sticky in a year or so--so sticky that they melt onto gloves and other tack. I also can't find a way to get them really clean. For a year's use at $22, they are well worth it, but don't pay $38 for them at a tack store like I did. I must say, my kids loved them.

Clean-up important!, 6/8/2009

Malinda Smith from Greenbrier, AR

These reins are especially helpful with youth learning hand placement because they have a visual cue of color. But reins do become tacky if exposed to horse spray or other chemicals. They will last a lot longer if you wipe them down or clean them after each ride.

These were good when I used them in the winter, but once summer came around they melted in my hands.
