Product Summary:

Cashel® Crusader™ Long Nose Fly Mask With Ears

Offer your horse the ultimate in fly protection and a safe alternative to toxic and ineffective fly sprays. Top-rated for comfort, design, and fit by equine clinicians and publications, the Cashel® Crusader™ Fly Mask employs a three-hole cap design that ensures comfort, eliminates forelock damage, and remains stationary whether your horse is in the stall or the pasture. The panels are constructed of soft-coated nylon micromesh that hovers above the skin’s surface, protecting the soft tissues of the eyes and forehead from flying insects and blocking 70% of the sun’s damaging UV rays. Edges and seams are bound with low-nap plush fabric that won’t attach to irritating burrs or bristles.

The Long Nose Crusader™ With Ears allows your horse's ears to slip lightly and comfortably into fitted sheaths made of Wickaway. This soft, moisture-wicking material is light and silent, allowing unobstructed hearing and full range of movement while completely protecting them from biting flies and gnats.

Features:

  • Soft and flexible for maximum comfort
  • Durable and long-lasting
  • Keeps mesh away from the eye area
  • Offers 70% UV sun protection

Great mask-worth the money!, 5/16/2013

Rdzrsmith from Maine

While blackflies are a big problem here along the river, I actually bought one of these masks 2 years ago for sun protection for my 15h QH gelding, whose nose has a bald spot in his white blaze. This spot would always burn, crack, and bleed if I didn't put sunscreen on it several times per day. I tried two other standard length masks that weren't quite long enough before I found this one. We love it! It's stiff enough to stay off his face (unlike one I bought) and yet soft enough not to rub. The opening for his mane is a great idea because it keeps the mane from getting matted being underneath all day and keeps his mane out of his eyes. I also love the softer material for his ears-less annoying noise for him every time he moves his ears. I have had to mend a small hole in on ear but that's too be expected if a horse is turned out 24/7. I've decided to get a second for a spare and some of the reviews state that Cashel has made them longer. This won't be a problem for me, as the old one ended just above his nostril and that would sometimes get a little pink from the sun. Overall, well worth the price!

Great... but not for my horse, 4/1/2013

Andrea from Brook Park

I needed a mask with ears for my horse because I clip his ears and the flies are bad. It's great quality and feel. It hasn't ripped. Unfortunately, though, my horse is a master at taking off fly masks. He gets them off within a day, even this mask, which makes me sad because I really like this mask.

Love this mask! , 9/6/2012

Kelly from apple valley, mn

bought one for my bald face paint mare, and she is no long bright pink on her nose! she wears it with no issues, it rarely gets ripped off her face, and she really loves it as much as i do! thinking of buying the arab size for my yearling, and also bought a horse sized one for a friesian pintabian my friend owns and it fits him perfect! best mask hands down, you definitely pay for quality over quantity here.

Better than sunscreen!, 6/1/2012

Caitlin from Bellingham, WA

My bald face mare has extremely sensitive skin to bugs, and even worse, to the sun. She gets blisters across her eyelids, in her nose, her lips, bloody, raw, and horribly painful to her. Sunscreen is not practical to put on everyday. Since I bought this mask 2 years ago, she has not burned once! The double velcro keeps even the annoying yearling in with her from tearing it off!

Great product, 7/30/2011

Barb from Michigan

This is the best mask I have ever purchased. Not stiff and uncomfortable, but durable. I bought the long nose version for my bald faced paint. Way more than good fly protection. Great protection from gnats in the ears with soft comfortable fabric. Sun protection even in the winter for her sensitive pink skin. And like others have said in their reviews, she comes right over and helps put it on.

It's a keeper ... almost, 7/5/2011

Nancy H from Big Lake, MN

I've tried several types of masks, but this has been the best. Unfortunately, my mare managed to lose it in the pasture & I can't find it. Don't know how she got it off - it has a double-velcro closure. The only problem is one I've experienced with all fly masks - horses like to rub, and they rub holes in the ears. But they love the mask - come to me to put it on when they see me with it. We live by a river and the gnats are awful, so masks are a necessity! There is no perfect mask, but this one is pretty close.

Great Idea, Needs Work, 7/5/2011

Teri from KS

I bought one of these masks with the long nose and ears for my 20yr old QH who has severe bug allergies. I was tired of the constant scabs on his face and open sores on his ears. I usually use the Supermasks (which I love), but needed something with more coverage. The coverage is exactly what I was wanting. The quality of the product isn't. The closure is too small to really keep the velcro attached, and my horse keeps taking it off. The first one I bought survived only 24hrs before being shredded. The 2nd one is currently missing in the pasture, for at least the 6th time this season. Love the idea. Needs work to be improved.

A little disheartened., 7/26/2010

CP from

I wrote a raving review before, however, I recieved my new one and need to revise. The design is still good, however, they've changed the quality of the mesh. It is lighter and more flexible than previously. You can feel the difference when comparing to the one I bought two years ago. Also, not sure what size arab they have but it doesn't fit mine. Passable in the upper section, however, the nose section is way to long. I think a bit of sewing can fix this. Also the closure is differnt. New design is more secure, (though I've never had the old one come loose) but so small it's hard to secure tight enough for my slender mare's head. I still prefer this over other brands but am still bummed the changes they made damage quaility rather than improve.

Does the job., 7/20/2010

CP from

I bought this first for my Arab mare. I only had the horse size available but bought it anyways. It was a bit big and hung low over her nose, however, I was able to jury rig it to fit better. Than I bought a grey TB that seems to attract every fly in the county. I threw this one on her and it fit perfect. She loves it and will actually come over to have it put on in the morning. This is it's third year and doing great though I do notice I will most likely need to replace the strap soon which is fine with me. I threw another popular brand in "arab" size on my mare and can't stand it. Am now purchasing a second cashel in arab size.

Cashell mask is great, 6/14/2010

Barb from

I bought this mask for my white faced paint. It works great against both bugs and sunburn. The long nose is a good fit and doesn't bother her at all. The ear coverings are soft and comfortable. The fleece trim is soft too, no problem with rubbed spots. I have tried other masks that are just too stiff, but my horse likes this one!

Fly mask for a not so clever horse!, 6/2/2010

Celeste from

This was a great fly mask quality and it kept my horse's little white stripe from being sunburnt! But right when I turned my clever little morgan gelding out it took him all of maybe 5 minutes to figure out how to get it off! Other than that it was great!

The BEST., 1/21/2010

b from fl

I LOVE this mask. My paint mare has a white face..that means PINK nose & PINK skin around the eye. She burns so easily in the sun. I bought this mask and it has lasted me 2 years. It works miracles. No more sunburn. I am going to buy another one because the first one I got has finally worn out...but it lasted me 2 YEARS! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS MASK. Can't wait to get a new one!!!

The ONLY ONE!!!!, 7/22/2009

Mary Ann from Marshall, VA

I have a bald faced, blue eyed paint gelding that has such pink skin that he literally fries in the sun even with SPF 50 sunscreen applied 3X a day. This is the ONLY mask that I have found that prevents him from burning. It really does have UV protection. This is the first summer that he has not been burned and peeled regardless of what we do. I am not having to wrestle to get the sunscreen on. Thank You The only suggestion is to have the manufacturer sew the extended nose on a few more times to make it stronger.

Great for Cremellos and Perlinos, 2/27/2008

Michelle Kincaid from Peotone, IL

I have to white guys and purchased two of these masks last summer. What interested me the most about Cashel was the uv protection. That is a great concern of mine, since one of my geldings has blue eyes. They hold up well even with regular washing. Hopefully I will get another summer out of them. I definetly recommend them.

No more bugs on head!, 1/25/2008

Jennifer Rogers from Spencerport, NY

What a great fly mask to use in either the pasture or on the trail. I use this mask on my 2,300 pound Belgian. They are strong and worth the money. I even use the mask while riding on the trail. My horse can see out of it just fine and really appreciates that there are no bugs in his ears, eyes or nose especially while riding in the woods. Even if the mask only lasts you one season it is well worth it. My horse gives it four hooves up!

The BEST fly mask!, 1/17/2008

TammyD from Northern IL

this is absolutely the BEST fly mask. Easyon, comfortable, long nose keeps flies & sun off my horses noses, ears keep the bugs out, forelock opening means their forelock isnt plastered to their heads & in their eyes. AND, if you sew, its easy to add a piece of polar fleece & mend it! I ONLY buy Cashel fly masks! Sale price is good.
