Love this pad, 1/13/2012

Katja from Texas

I have to agree with everything the previous reviewer said. This pad is great. I originally bought it for my husband as he uses an Australian saddle and this pad has the lower sides in the front to accommodate the lower rigging on his saddle. I ended up snagging it for myself whenever I could. I run barrels in it. I love the preformed crease along the spine of the pad so it doesn't just fold over your horse's back. It fits over your horse's back. And like the other poster said, the pad areas stay dry while the rest of the horse is drenched in sweat. And yes, it fits itself into the gullet nicely. It's thick enough to give plenty of cushion but not overly thick. And it sticks. The tacky bottom works great which is another reason I got it for my hubby as he is heavier and always has trouble with his saddle sliding while mounting. Unfortunately we lost our beloved Reinsman pad in a barn fire recently but that's why I'm here. I just bought 2 more so we don't have to fight over just one anymore. No reason to change though.

THICK saddle pad, 1/7/2012

Micharp from Mid Valley, Oregon

I bought this saddle pad from Coastal for $50, which is see now was a steal. I was looking for a round skirt saddle pad since my horse is extremely short backed and everything hit him in his hips. This was the only round skirt pad I could find so I bought it and tried it on. I was extremely impressed with the material, and I must prefer it over basic fleece navajo pads, even though my friends swear by them. My horse is round, and by round I mean like a barrel and has nearly no withers. When I tired basic pads, his saddle slipped no matter how tight he was cinched up. The no slip held up extremely well, since my saddle did not move at all, and even though he was thoroughly sweating, the area under the pad was dry (strange concept). My horse was actually happier than he had been since we started training, and I know his saddle fits him, so I guess the saddle pad before just pinched him wrong or was too thick without much contact. Another thing I noticed about this pad is that the wither area already sucks itself into the gullet so you don't have to nearly cause a hernia trying to lift a pad into the gullet of a heavy saddle. Although the saddle pad is thick, it does adjust itself to conture the horse's back while cinched, and then goes back to new shape after its off so it can be used on another horse without any problems. Overall, I thought it was a great buy.
